Hey mamas, it's Tassia here—NP-T and founder of Aurora Health & Wellness.

If your days look anything like mine, you're probably juggling work, family, and maybe trying to steal five minutes for yourself somewhere in between. I get it. It’s way too easy to end up last on your own list. At Aurora Maternal & Family Healthcare, we see you. We really do. The strength you bring, the love you give, and all those endless days (and nights!)—you’re the heart of your family, always showing up.

This Mother’s Day, we just want to say one thing: You deserve a little love too.

(And not just the last bite of your kid’s granola bar kind of love!) I’m talking about real, intentional care—for you. So here are five simple ways to treat yourself—not just today, but anytime you need a little lift.

The Power of Saying ā€œNoā€

Let’s be real—mom life is full of ā€œyeses.ā€ Yes to bake sales, yes to that extra project, yes to driving across town because someone forgot their cleats. But constantly saying yes can wear you down fast. Here’s the truth: Saying ā€œnoā€ doesn’t make you selfish. It makes you smart. It's a way of protecting your energy and honoring your limits. And that’s good for everyone in your life.

Next time someone asks you to do ā€œjust one more thing,ā€ try saying, ā€œLet me think about it.ā€ Give yourself that pause. That little bit of breathing room can help you decide what’s truly best for you. Because when you say no to the things that drain you, you’re making space to say yes to things that fill you back up. You’re not just surviving—you’re giving yourself the chance to thrive.

Just Breathe: A 5-Minute Reset

Busy mornings, endless to-dos, constant multitasking—sometimes it feels like the only peace you get is when everyone else is finally asleep. But you don’t need an hour to reset—just five minutes of breathing can make a world of difference, calming you right down and giving you a little inner refresh.

Try this: Box breathing

  1. Breathe in for 4 counts.

  2. Hold for 4 counts.

  3. Exhale for 4 counts.

  4. Pause for 4 counts.

  5. Repeat for 4 rounds.

That’s it. It’s simple, but it works. This kind of mindful breathing helps lowers stress, steady your heart rate, and ground you when you feel overwhelmed.

Mindful Mornings: Start With You

Let’s be honest—most mornings are chaos. But what if you gave yourself just a few quiet minutes before the day takes over? As your day begins, make a point to crack open a window and just breathe in that fresh morning air, trying to really enjoy that quiet moment. Sip on your coffee slowly—savor it, you know? —or set a really simple goal for the day. Something like, "Today, I will be kind to myself."

It doesn’t have to be big. Just something that brings you back to yourself. Starting the day with a little calm and care isn’t just good for you—it’s a beautiful way to model self-love for your kids, too.

Make Home Your Retreat

Look, you work so hard every single day, and you give so much of yourself to your family! You truly deserve more than just a super quick break. You deserve a little burst of joy and a chance to just recharge. Setting up your own mini retreat right at home can be just the thing to help you reset and feel refreshed, so you're ready to handle whatever comes your way.

Think about turning your bathroom into your own little peaceful escape. Light up a scented candle, run that warm bath, toss in your favorite bath salts or oils, and put on some calming music. Or maybe curl up in your comfiest spot with a good book and a warm drink. Get lost in those pages and just escape all the demands of the day. This time? It’s all yours, and you don’t need to feel even a tiny bit guilty about it. You? You earned it! So, make the conscious effort to schedule in this much-deserved time.

Gratitude… for You

Let’s be honest: Every mother is truly amazing. She’s full of so much love and strength and has the ability to handle a million things, giving all of herself to caring for her family. So, taking even a tiny moment to just think about what you're grateful for—and yep, that includes yourself—is a fantastic way to celebrate your journey as a mom and really see all the incredible things that you do every single day. Maybe think about keeping a little journal near your bed so you can put this next idea into motion.

Try this: Before bed, jot down three things you’re grateful for—and make sure one of them is something you did well. Maybe you kept your cool during a toddler meltdown. Maybe you finally got that workout in. Maybe you just got through the day.

Celebrate that. Celebrate you.

So, this Mother's Day – and every day – give yourself the permission and space to embrace these simple acts of self-care. You are seen. You are celebrated. And you are deeply appreciated, more than you know. From all of us at Aurora Maternal & Family Healthcare, Happy Mother's Day! May it be filled with moments of joy, peace, and love – especially for you.

With love and gratitude,

– Your team at Aurora Maternal & Family Healthcare
